SATURDAY'S MEETING
On Saturday, May 19 the 48th Ward Democratic Party held a selection meeting to choose a new Democratic Commiteeman. In the March 2004 Mike Volini was elected to a four year term as Democratic Committeeman, but at Saturday's meeting he tendered his resignation nine months early, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.

Two candidates presented themselves for consideration as the new Democratic Committeeman, myself and State Senator Carol Ronen. It was a packed house, with over 125 people in attendance, many of whom had to stand (as you can see in this picture). A good number were members of our group and other supporters, and I thank all of them for coming. I also had several community members who were present thank me for sending them a postcard informing them of the meeting, saying that they never would have known about it otherwise. Thanks again to all of our members who helped mail and distribute the 2,200 postcards and 5,000 flyers that we put out to invite people to this meeting.
More photos from the event (thanks Leo)
Ben Joravsky, of the Chicago Reader, has also written a piece about the selection of Carol Ronen.
